Ever seen homeless, abused, neglected, abandoned animals looking at you with dispair and resignation in their eyes ? Ever felt helpless and inadequate and wishing you could do something about it ? You can ! We may not be the richest or cleverest people in the world, but every little thing we do for these critters makes a world of difference to them. Be a volunteer....
These organisations need volunteers and donations.

The Singapore Hospice Council (SHC)
http://www.singaporehospice.org.sg/
Hospice and palliative care is a holistic approach to caring for patients going through the last stages of their lives. It aims to meet all needs (physical, emotional, psychosocial and spiritual) so as to alleviate suffering and maximise quality of life for patients and their loved ones.
The Singapore Hospice Council (SHC), in partnership withthe Lien Foundation, created the first-ever doctors’ and nurses’ palliative care fellowships and scholarships in Singapore, and launched an inaugural campaign to raise public awareness of hospice palliative care in Singapore. Of the S$2m funding provided by the Lien Foundation to the SHC, S$1.2m has been channeled to the scholarships and fellowships, while the other S$800,000 has been channeled to public awareness efforts. This has been a project to raise public awareness and attract more doctors and nurses into, hospice palliative care.
“We are very heartened by Lien Foundation’s support for the ‘cause of the dying’. About 70% of people with terminal illnesses are dying without hospice palliative care in Singapore.

THE NATIONAL MENTAL HEALTH SURVEY RESULTS (February 2003 to March 2004)
The survey results showed that the population weighted lifetime and recent prevalence of depression in adults was 5.6% and 4.9% respectively, whilst the population weighted lifetime and recent prevalence of anxiety in adults was 3.4% and 2.3% respectively. The prevalence of depression and dementia in elderly aged 60 years and above was 3.1% and 5.2% respectively.
(The Straits Times, 30 Sep 2004)
This means approximately 224,000 Singaporean aged 59 and below and 124,000 aged 60 and above will be hit by depression at some point in their life.
Depression affects so many people that the vast majority of us have known or will know a person in the family, at work or in our circle of friends, who will develop depression! Depression therefore concerns us all.
In this section you can get information about depression and the symptoms which accompany it. You can read about what triggers depression and about the different types of depression, as well as how doctors distinguish between them.

RECYCLE & REUSE – LET'S DO YOUR PART!

RECYCLE & REUSE – LET'S DO YOUR PART!
We noticed that many companies are not recycling and even for those who recycle, many throw away papers along side with stationeries e.g. clear folders, plastic folders, arch files, metal clips, ring binders, etc. Many of these stationeries are still very new, so why are they throwing away? We believe that many of these companies may be too busy to notice, find it troublesome to remove or don't bother to re-use them. But most of these stationeries still look new & re-usable, isn't it a waste to be thrown away? Especially those that cannot be recycled and are thrown away before they are really spoilt. At Marcom Recycling Point, we want to take part in the promoting of recycling, reusing and reducing wastage. To support this mission, and to encourage more companies to recycle, we will retain such stationeries if applicable and give to companies who pledged their recyclables e.g. paper documents, newspapers, magazines, CDs, cartridges, etc and don't mind reusing used stationeries (or to other suitable channels if necessary). In this way, these companies can help to reduce wastage and also save when such stationeries don't have to be bought on a regular basis. For the updated list of used stationeries/office items, please click here. If you plan to throw away stationeries that are still in good condition, please call us too (if not working, please dispose them accordingly as most of them cannot be recycled - check with us if not sure).
We are grateful to have 138 companies pledge their support to our Recycle & Reuse Program one way or another since it was promoted on 21 Aug 08. Click here to view. We hope more companies regardless big or small will support recycling, reusing and to help cut down wastages. If you would like to start a recycling program for your school, please download proposal here.
To pledge your recyclables (suggested list) & support our program, please fill up the following and email to us or fax to 62340176.
