Yes, the outdoor events "season" has begun for 2011! Start the new year with a very relaxing stroll along Changi Coastal Boardwalk! Details are as below:

Brief HighlightsRamble along the shores of Changi Spit/Beach (one of the few remaining original coastlines) at super-low tide (0.5m at 4 p.m.) and spot for sea creatures such as sea anemones, sea pencils, crabs etc. Learn about and watch out for the heritage of Changi Village/Beach where time has stood still since the 1960s. Take a relaxing stroll along the serene and windy Changi Coastal Boardwalk. Here, we will observe people fishing/prawning/crabbing, watch the pretty boats sailing by and catch the sun setting over the horizon. Finally, we will "fei-lo-ship" over sumptuous "zhi cha" dinner at the well-known yet reasonably priced Ubin First Stop Restaurant with new and old friends.

SFG have a ministry called TALC (Touch A Life for Christ). TALC reaches out to families that are not well to do financially. Some of these families have single parent. The children hardly have enough pocket money for school and the families sometimes does not have money even for their normal day-to-day groceries and meals.

(2) "UNLOCK YOUR FROZEN SHOULDER" HEALTH TALK ON 20TH AUG 2010 (FRIDAY NIGHT)(Re-send) (For Christian Singles only)

Can you do this simple test: place your hand to reach the opposite shoulder blade ?

If you are not able to do this easily and there is some pain as you try to reach the opposite shoulder blade, the fault usually lies in the muscle that sits on the shoulder blade bone (the scapula bone) called the infraspinatus muscle. The problem arises because the injured infraspinatus muscle is usually shortened in a muscle band (like a tight rope pulling), causing what we would term “a range of movement restriction”.

For some people, hours of computer work will also result in what is termed as a “frozen shoulder”.

If left untreated on a long term basis, other symptoms of movement restriction such as the following problems may manifest:

- inability to lift your arm to wear a T-shirt, or

- difficulty to raise your arm to comb your hair

- for ladies, difficulty in hooking the bra from the back

- hurting right shoulder which means you have to sleep on the left side

- numbness in the fingers at times, with a tingling sensation in them


To understand more about the medically safe and yet drug-free treatment, attend the workshop on “Unlock Your Frozen Shoulder”, conducted by Dr Shu Lit Gen (MBBS), from HealthScience Wellness.

Five participants will be given the opportunity to win FREE Postural Assessment (pre- and post-) worth $60.

Medical doctor, Dr Shu, went from 30 years of clinical practice to Myofascial therapy natural pain rehabilitation. He trained at the Australian School of Body Integrated Therapy, runs clinics in Malaysia and Singapore and conducts courses at the Coleman Institute of Health Nutrition.

Here we stop to admire the serenity of the reservoir before continuing our walk along a nature trail through secondary jungle on an abandoned rubber plantation along the reservoir ending at Old Upper Thomson Road. Learn what characterises the secondary jungle here and how the reservoir was formed. Expect to see fishes, tortoises, birds, monkeys and squirrels. If the Lord is very kind to us, we might see owls, eagles and monitor lizards or even pangolins, slow loris, mousedeer, collugos, wild boars and sambar deer that were recently reported in the newspapers. So pray very hard that we have good weather and that we may get to see these elusive creatures or at least their hoof marks on the ground! Program is expected to end at 7.15 p.m. with dinner nearby at one of the famous eateries along Upper Thomson Road.

Find out why the trail is named after Alfred Wallace, a British naturalist. Learn what characterises the secondary jungle here. Explore the Visitor Centre to learn more about the nature and heritage of this area. We will then trek to the former Singapore Quarry which is now a lake. Expect to see birds, monkeys, monitor lizards and squirrels on this trail. There are other small mammals and reptiles that appear only at night. Pray very hard that we have good weather. Program is expected to end at 7.15 p.m. with dinner nearby around Bukit Timah Plaza/Beauty World Shopping centre.

We will first visit an abandoned quarry turned lake, some 80-over metres deep where large flocks of herons and egrets gather. We then visit Bukit Puaka (74m), the highest point on the island and one of the most scenic hilltop in Singapore. From here, you have a near 360 degree view northwards to Pasir Gudang, Johor, southwards to Pasir Ris and as far as Raffles Place (some 30km away), westwards to Punggol and as far as Johor Bahru town and eastwards to Changi Village, Changi Airport and Pulau Tekong! Next we will cycle westwards to visit the shrine dedicated to a German girl, which is popular with gamblers. This is the only place in Singapore where a sign has been erected in German! Learn the legend behind this shrine and see the unique offerings placed on her altar! Despite the superstitions involved, this is a shrine like no other! After a stopover for lunch/drinks near the jetty, we cycle eastwards to Tanjong Chek Jawa passing by a 100 year old tall tree. Here is where 5 ecosystems exist in one place - coral rubble, marine hill forest, mangrove swamp, sand bar/beach and rocky coastline. Explore an old Tudor-style colonial bungalow that is popular for wedding shots! Expect to see mudskippers, eagles, hornbills, wild boars and some small marine creatures here such as fiddler crabs. Pray that the Lord will allow us to spot the elusive dugong and otters here! Take a good look at the Nipah palm whose fruits are used in desserts and whose leaves are used to make attap roofs of local houses. Learn the usefulness of mangrove swamps to mankind and the environment. Finally, we cycle north to Mamam Beach passing by rubber plantations to visit the "mini zoo" on the island. Program is expected to end around 3 p.m.

Hi all, its time for another round of speed dating. It is a great way to meet people especially if you are the shy type that does not dare to approach people in big group events (like me!).

Speed dating works by having an equal number of males and females seated opposite each other. The pairs will have 5-8 minutes to interact before the males move onto the next lady.

At the end of the session, each participant will indicate who he/she is interested to meet up again. Results will be tabulated and emailed to attendees a few days later!

For this enhanced version of speed-dating, you can expect it to be different from 'traditions' (where results were compiled based on mutual-matches) in such a way that choices made by participants are revelatory to those they selected. How's the speed-dating session like?
It will be conducted in groups, with 2 - 3 participants of the same gender in each group.
During the session, each group of participants will be given about 10 - 12mins to interact. When the time is up, the gentlemen moves to meet the ladies of another group, and so on.

Traditional vs Revelatory Speed-Dating?
Unlike the 'Traditional' version where 'results' are based on mutual matches, this 'Revelatory' version is different in a way that: as long as a participant got selected by someone of the opposite gender, he/she will be informed (privately by the organiser) about it. e.g. If Jane was chosen by John, Jack, and Joe as their choice, she will be informed that all 3 of them has chosen her. Results of the speed-dating will be make known to respective participants within few days via email.

1) Calling for People interested in learning beginner salsa! (For Single Christian Only)

At the event last saturday (chill out at blu jaz), i chatted and found another person who wanted to learn salsa all along but procrastinated. We asked around and some salsa "expert" recommended 2 Left Feet dance studio.

There're two of us definitely joining the saturday lessons starting 27th sat, 4 lessons in all. The best thing is that you can go for as many refresher courses as you like for free so you will never forget the steps!

I do not know the people at 2 left feet nor profit from it.
As for getting the discounted fee, since internet prepayment is necessary, friends can sign up together, but i foresee it'll be more difficult for a stranger to pay for another first. I will not be involved in any payment matters also.

What i can do is to collate the namelist of fellow christians who are *serious, sincere* to sign up for this upcoming dance session. I'll then update and forward this list to all interested pple on a daily basis until friday.
It's that simple :p
