THE NATIONAL MENTAL HEALTH SURVEY RESULTS (February 2003 to March 2004)

The survey results showed that the population weighted lifetime and recent prevalence of depression in adults was 5.6% and 4.9% respectively, whilst the population weighted lifetime and recent prevalence of anxiety in adults was 3.4% and 2.3% respectively. The prevalence of depression and dementia in elderly aged 60 years and above was 3.1% and 5.2% respectively.

This means approximately 224,000 Singaporean aged 59 and below and 124,000 aged 60 and above will be hit by depression at some point in their life.
