(1) TREKKING IN NORTHERN PAKISTAN FROM 05TH TO 30TH AUG 2011
(Open To All)
Soaring to new height at Northern Pakistain - A land of mountains, valley, glacier where Karakoram (K2) range is. Come and join us on this trek: Baltoro-Concordia (4550m)-Gondogoro la pass (5700m). The route brings many scenic views of many mountains above 7000m incl. K2 at close view and one can experience the different terrains: snow and glacier.
The trekking details are:
Travel Period: 5 Aug - 30 Aug 11 (26 days but 16 vacation leaves)
Difficulty: Strenuous (High altitude; Have very steep climbs and descent) Risk: Weather dependable. May hv avalanche and crevasses.
Criteria: team player, climbed >4000m (an advantage), able to commit to twice/thrice training
Estimated cost: S$4,600 (incl. airticket, guide, porter, tents and food during trekking, transport, n hotel accom; excl. visa, trekking permit, travel insurance, rental of climbing eqt such as crampon, winter clothes, down sleeping bag, food in town and tips)

(2) RESEARCH PROJECT BY NUS MEDICINE FACULTY

Elderly Chinese people are needed for a research project by the Nursing Dept. of NUS Medicine Faculty. You may want to check with your parents (60 years and above) whether they are keen to participate for this research project.

Research Topic: The relationship between writing autobiography and depression among the older Chinese people.
Requirements:
Age: 60 and above
Race: Chinese
For control group
Task: I will visit the elderly and he or she will be asked the same 15 true or false questions in week 1, week 2, week 3, week 4 and after 1 month, the last time.
Reward: $50 NTUC voucher
For intervention group
Task: Besides the above task, there will be some intervention like counselling by a nurse and the person needs to write an autobiography.
Reward: $200 NTUC voucher
