Cycling to Peirce Reservoir (for single christians only)

Inviting all cyclists to join me for the below event:
Date: Sat 22 Aug 09
Time: 0830-1300hrs
Meeting Venue: Bus stop at along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 (beside Bishan Park 2)
Cycling Route: Bishan Pk 2 (bike rental) - Bishan Pk 1 - Lower Peirce Reservoir - Upper Peirce Reservoir - reverse order journey to Bishan Pk 2.
Lunch: At Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 hawker centre (directly opposite Bishan Park 2)

Activities:
1) At Lower Peirce Reservoir: water catchment view and forest board walk.
2) At Upper Peirce Reservoir: water catchments view, overlooking to Lower Peirce Reservoir and some flats at AMK(may be even Bishan Pk 1 (trees top), if you use a binocular). Rest, playing games (optional) and more trekking (optional) ..

Level: Moderate. At Upper Peirce Reservoir (two very steep hills after the entrance; that is a challenge for most of you I believe) and gradual up slope before (30 m) and after Lower Peirce Reservoir (about 80 metre; but return journey is a down slope, so do apply your rear brake) , the rest of the route is flat ground !!
Requirement: It's ok if you don't know how to use or engage the gears. But must be able to cycle confidently on both up and down (applying the brakes effectively) slope.

Pls register your participation (or enquiry), stating whether you need a bike and helmet rental or bringing your own bike and/or helmet and your hp number, gender, email address and church attending via my email : dawnwarrior@ymail.com. Wearing helmet (cycling/rollerblading) is compulsory. Kindly state on the email heading: "Cycling to PR". If not, I may mistaken & treat it as a malicious/scam email and delete it.

Group Size: 15 pax max. Hope to have a equal number of gals and guys (including myself). Registration on first-come-first-serve basis.

Bike rental rate: It depends on the group size. $16 for 4 hr (if there is a group size of 10-15 pax renting). Usual is $8/hr. I intend to have another round of bargain with the boss, after gather the confirmed group size. Final rate will be disclose again after second round of bargain on 16th August.

Helmet rental rate: $3 for 4 hr (usual is $2/hr). Wearing helmet is compulsory. Btw, I will be using my own bike and I don't earn any profit from the rentals of bike & helmet. Just like to encourage group participation and have fun cycling and nature sightseeing together. :-)

Closing date of registration: 12th of August. As I need to reserve booking for the bikes & negotiate on the rental rates (second round again, haha..). Anybody here gifted in negotiation skills are welcome to help me.

Important notes to read:
After Bishan Park 1 onwards, we will be cycling on-road (old Upper Thomson Road) leading to Lower Peirce Reservoir and Upper Peirce Reservoir, as there are no pavement or cycling track. It is a short route (about less than 100 metre) to Lower Peirce Reservoir and about 1.5Km - 2Km (my estimation) to Upper Peirce Reservoir.

Usually, this road is relatively quiet, only some visitors driving along this road to either Lower or Upper Peirce Reservoirs on weekends for jogging or picnic. Others would be joggers, cyclist, group of racer cyclists (occasionally) and monkeys along the road. So it is safe cycling on this road, based on my past experiences. Just that the road size is two-lane width (two ways except the road before Lower Peirce entrance), so we need to keep to the left as possible and cycle in one single file. And a short stretch of S-bend road before Upper Peirce Reservoir. But don’t worry, for everyone’s safety, we will cycle slowly and keep close together as a group, except for the first man (me) and my helpers (second, third and last man).
There will be a total of two or three danger zones throughout the journey. My helpers and myself will guide you along when comes to these danger zones. Safety guidelines would be: no overtaking among the group, try to echo down any message pass down from the last man or anybody in the group (especially when there is vehicle approaching from behind). If on certain route you find that the road edge is 'scary' (uneven or cracked) and feel not safe or confident to ride, do feel free to disembark and push the bike along, embark and ride again once you feel it is safe to ride.

And cos we are cycling on the road, I hope that everyone adopt a road-conscious attitude, be aware at all times, of vehicles coming from the rear and from the front (on S-bend road; that small stretch before the entrance of Upper Peirce). That will make the trip fun, enjoyable and safe. By the way, the road is surrounded mostly by trees and vegetation at both sides so it is a total different feeling when cycling along this road.

Other details will be disclosed thro your email after you signed up. Simple tips such as how to clear the steep (up & down) slopes at Upper Peirce for those inexperience and for those who likes to take on the challenge! .. Sorry for this long description but felt that it is necessary.

P.S :
The lengthy decription is for your rough understanding only. It's ok if you don't remember anything after reading :-) I will brief the group and my helpers again on that day and at the danger zone itself. Just follow the instruction will do. That simple. :-) Ok, stay healthy & rejoice in the Lord always.
