To celebrate the hot date of the century, "Set Free! Let's Live It UP!", on 11.11.11, we would like to invite shutterbugs to submit photos that will capture the victorious Christian life...

These pictures will be collated into a book together with entries submitted by writers (see website: www.singlesfocusgroup.org for more details and the Rules and Regulations if you have missed the previous mail).

Nov 11 was first celebrated as Happy Singles Day in the early 1990s in China although no one particularly knows how it all started.

For the first time, Singles Focus Group (SFG) will celebrate that day right here in Singapore… on one of the hottest dates in the century ... 11.11.11 (Friday)

You are warmly invited to join Christian Singles all over Singapore and Malaysia to create an evening to remember… to re-dedicate yourself to the Lord, to celebrate Life and Friendship with fun, food and songs, and to spiritually, as well as symbolically, set yourself free from any possible defeat as a single or from any bondages of past relationships to live a victorious life.

To commemorate the event, SFG would like to call all Shutter-bugs or anyone with a passion to capture unforgettable moments to submit photographs that will portray the theme “Set Free! Let’s Live It Up!”.

Project Photo aims to encourage Christian Singles to use pictures either to Capture the Essence of a Happy and Fulfilling Single Life or to Inspire Other Singles to Journey on Victoriously in Life.

Join us in making this Project a reality.

Submit your photographs to us. The picture subject/s can be composed of people, objects, landscapes and/or anything up to your imagination.

Rules and Regulations:
1. Anyone who is a Christian Single 25 years old & above is eligible to contribute to this project.
2. Photographers may submit a maximum of three photographs.
Each photo must come with a caption of not more than 15 words (each).
3. All photos are to be originally taken by the Contest entrant. The photograph must not in-fringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual proper-ty rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim, or interest in the photograph.
4. All photos submitted must be in digital format at least 300dpi and 148 X 210mm in TIFF or JPEG to enable printing and not more than 15MB each.
5. All selected photos will be published together with photographer’s name and profession. The organizers reserve the right to publish or reject any photos without providing any explanation to the involved parties.
6. Entries must be accompanied by a brief profile of photographer in no more than 80 words. (namely, who you are and what you do).

Selected pictures will be published together with Project Book.

Below are the details of the three events for this month. I do not cancel events at the last minute due to expected bad weather. Always assume an event is "on", unless specifically notified by me. FYI, geographically, Singapore's weather is notoriously hard to forecast with accuracy, due to our coastal location. We have had so many cases when the rain stopped just before an event was scheduled to start, as many of you can testify, so please have more faith, and turn up, rain or shine!

Thank you for those who signed up for the Japanese buffet dinner event to be held originally on 12th March, Saturday 2011 at Orchard road.

Due to my heavy work schedule, I would need to push back the dinner to 19th March 2011, (Saturday) same time. Please reply me by 10th March 2011 if you are still able to make it for the event.

Time : 6 pm - 10.30 pm
There are currently 14 sisters and 5 brothers who has registered. Usually there will be more brothers signing up closer the date of event...

Dear brothers and sisters,

Blessed belated CNY to you! I trust that most of you had a good time meeting up with relatives and indulging in CNY goodies. Thus, its time for some exercises to make up for all that extra calories gained! For me, I just came back from a very adventurous 4D3N solo camping and trekking trip in a national park in Thailand (although I did visit Bangkok too) with lots of inspiration and tales to share.

I would like to thank the many of you who responded to my church's missions donation appeal for children's clothes and bedsheets. I regret that I have been unable to get the stuff from most of you yet. The dateline is end of February. If you are attending my two events for this month, please bring them along. If not, please notify me and let me work out how I can get them from you. Same for those of you who offered children's shoes and toys. I ask for your patience please, as work is picking up for me. But thankfully, I can still manage two events a month.

Below are the details of the two events for this month. Please be assured that all my events have wet weather contingency programs (this is standard operational procedure in both the SAF and MOE), so I do not cancel events due to expected bad weather. Always assume an event is "on", unless specifically notified by me (and I won't cancel an event at the last minute). FYI, geographically, Singapore's weather is notoriously hard to forecast with accuracy, due to our coastal location. We have had so many cases when the rain stopped just before an event was scheduled to start, as many of you can testify, so please have more faith, and turn up, rain or shine!

Start Time: 4.15 p.m. (we will not wait beyond 15 minutes)

Meeting Venue: ECP McDonald's main entrance

Quota: None.

End Point/End Time: Changi Village (dinner at Ubin First Stop Restaurant) 6.45 - 7 p.m. with dinner thereafter.

Total Distance: 18 km (2 - 2.5 hours leisurely). Those who are not able to cycle this distance, must be prepared to head back by themselves, as our end point is not the same as the start point.

Note: Those who wish to bring along their bikes may do so, but please take note of the end point. Those without bikes will have to rent at the kiosk. Drivers, please leave your cars behind as this is not a loop ride.

My church (Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church) has a missions field in Chiang Rai, Thailand, and we are collecting children's clothes and bedsheets to be shipped over before the Thai New Year. You can do your part to bring a smile to the lives of these children in Huay Khu Village. Some of you have nephews or nieces with you in your home. If you have children's clothes (aged 6 - 12) and bedsheets for single beds (both should be in appropriate condition without stains or holes) that you do not want anymore, please pass them to me when you attend my events in January or February or contact me to see how I can get them from you, if you will not be attending my events these two months.

There has been a suggestion to include overnight campovers at St John's/Lazarus Islands, Pulau Hantu or Pulau Ubin in my events and I shall certainly plan to do so this year (imagine the star gazing and night wildlife spotting opportunities). I also feel that it will be good if some of us can participate in some meaningful projects/events that can help further the gospel and/or manifest Christian charity to others. If you all have any such events that fall on weekends, for example, the annual "Cycling for Bibles" event, please let me (or Michael or Zhirong) know so that we can help to publicise or perhaps even to organise a team of volunteers to participate.

The Bukit Batok Nature Walk event has attracted 42 participants thus far with two more weeks to go. I hope to see many of you at the event.

Finally, last Wednesday's Straits Times has this good news that in the latest national census conducted once every decade, the percentage of Christians in our nation has grown from 14.6% to 18.3% (although this figure includes nominal Christians and non-evangelicals) since the last census in 2000. Sociologically, I believe the true figure to be closer to 20% since many young (and even older) people do not reveal openly that they have accepted Christ. Praise the Lord that the Gospel is taking off well here and we are close to becoming like South Korea.

We had a good start to our first event this year at Changi Boardwalk with 50 participants, of whom 1/4 were newcomers. After January, I intend to have two to three events a month. This year, besides walks (day and also night ones), I will be organising picnics, cycling trips, heritage/museum tours, day/overnight trips to Malaysia and likely even canoeing events to add variety. I believe there are some amongst us who will also be organising alternative events this year.

The walk below will be on 30th January (Sunday). From February onwards, I will try to keep my events on Saturday afternoons/evenings.

First we will take Bus 852 to the nature park. We will ascend the many steps that lead up to the foundations of the wartime Syonan Chureito Shrine and learn about its heritage. After that, we will take a walk through the shady secondary jungle up the hill to a scenic lookout point over the disused granite quarry lake. Then, we will descend the slope and emerge from the trees to visit the tranquil disused granite quarry lake and watch out for birds, reptiles, amphibians and fishes. Finally, we will walk to the bus-stop to take a bus to West Mall and "fei-lo-ship" at one of the eateries/restaurants over dinner with new and old friends.

Soaring to new height at Northern Pakistain - A land of mountains, valley, glacier where Karakoram (K2) range is. Come and join us on this trek: Baltoro-Concordia (4550m)-Gondogoro la pass (5700m). SFG have a ministry called TALC (Touch A Life for Christ). TALC reaches out to families that are not well to do financially. Some of these families have single parent. The children hardly have enough pocket money for school and the families sometimes does not have money even for their normal day-to-day groceries and meals.

Christmas is a time to bring joy and share glad tidings. Your kind and generous giving will bring much joy and happiness to these children that hardly knew what real gift is all about, let alone receiving one. Most of the time they live meagrely.

(2) "UNLOCK YOUR FROZEN SHOULDER" HEALTH TALK ON 20TH AUG 2010 (FRIDAY NIGHT)(Re-send) (For Christian Singles only)

Can you do this simple test: place your hand to reach the opposite shoulder blade ?

If you are not able to do this easily and there is some pain as you try to reach the opposite shoulder blade, the fault usually lies in the muscle that sits on the shoulder blade bone (the scapula bone) called the infraspinatus muscle. The problem arises because the injured infraspinatus muscle is usually shortened in a muscle band (like a tight rope pulling), causing what we would term “a range of movement restriction”.

For some people, hours of computer work will also result in what is termed as a “frozen shoulder”.

If left untreated on a long term basis, other symptoms of movement restriction such as the following problems may manifest:

- inability to lift your arm to wear a T-shirt, or

- difficulty to raise your arm to comb your hair

- for ladies, difficulty in hooking the bra from the back

- hurting right shoulder which means you have to sleep on the left side

- numbness in the fingers at times, with a tingling sensation in them

To understand more about the medically safe and yet drug-free treatment, attend the workshop on “Unlock Your Frozen Shoulder”, conducted by Dr Shu Lit Gen (MBBS), from HealthScience Wellness.

PROGRAM OUTLINE:

This walk follows the Kallang River through Bishan Park to its natural source - Lower Pierce Reservoir. Here we stop to admire the serenity of the reservoir before continuing our walk along a nature trail through secondary jungle on an abandoned rubber plantation along the reservoir ending at Old Upper Thomson Road. Learn what characterises the secondary jungle here and how the reservoir was formed. Expect to see fishes, tortoises, birds, monkeys and squirrels. If the Lord is very kind to us, we might see owls, eagles and monitor lizards or even pangolins, slow loris, mousedeer, collugos, wild boars and sambar deer that were recently reported in the newspapers. So pray very hard that we have good weather and that we may get to see these elusive creatures or at least their hoof marks on the ground! Program is expected to end at 7.15 p.m. with dinner nearby at one of the famous eateries along Upper Thomson Road.

Chillout at Ang Mo Kio hub and then take a bus to Lower Pierce Reservoir (15 mins) after the rain stops.

This trek takes us through secondary jungle on what was once rubber plantation and a dairy farm from the 1930s to 1970s. Some of its key buildings still remain today. Find out why the trail is named after Alfred Wallace, a British naturalist. Learn what characterises the secondary jungle here. Explore the Visitor Centre to learn more about the nature and heritage of this area. We will then trek to the former Singapore Quarry which is now a lake. PROGRAM OUTLINE:

We will first visit an abandoned quarry turned lake, some 80-over metres deep where large flocks of herons and egrets gather. We then visit Bukit Puaka (74m), the highest point on the island and one of the most scenic hilltop in Singapore. From here, you have a near 360 degree view northwards to Pasir Gudang, Johor, southwards to Pasir Ris and as far as Raffles Place (some 30km away), westwards to Punggol and as far as Johor Bahru town and eastwards to Changi Village, Changi Airport and Pulau Tekong! Next we will cycle westwards to visit the shrine dedicated to a German girl, which is popular with gamblers. This is the only place in Singapore where a sign has been erected in German! Learn the legend behind this shrine and see the unique offerings placed on her altar! Despite the superstitions involved, this is a shrine like no other! After a stopover for lunch/drinks near the jetty, we cycle eastwards to Tanjong Chek Jawa passing by a 100 year old tall tree. Here is where 5 ecosystems exist in one place - coral rubble, marine hill forest, mangrove swamp, sand bar/beach and rocky coastline. Explore an old Tudor-style colonial bungalow that is popular for wedding shots! Expect to see mudskippers, eagles, hornbills, wild boars and some small marine creatures here such as fiddler crabs. Pray that the Lord will allow us to spot the elusive dugong and otters here! Take a good look at the Nipah palm whose fruits are used in desserts and whose leaves are used to make attap roofs of local houses. Learn the usefulness of mangrove swamps to mankind and the environment. Finally, we cycle north to Mamam Beach passing by rubber plantations to visit the "mini zoo" on the island. Program is expected to end around 3 p.m.

Hi all, its time for another round of speed dating. It is a great way to meet people especially if you are the shy type that does not dare to approach people in big group events (like me!).

Speed dating works by having an equal number of males and females seated opposite each other. The pairs will have 5-8 minutes to interact before the males move onto the next lady.

At the end of the session, each participant will indicate who he/she is interested to meet up again. Results will be tabulated and emailed to attendees a few days later!

There will be 3 sessions that I intend to conduct on Vesak day, being a public holiday!

At the event last saturday (chill out at blu jaz), i chatted and found another person who wanted to learn salsa all along but procrastinated. We asked around and some salsa "expert" recommended 2 Left Feet dance studio.

Hiking at Macritchie Reservoir Park (For Single Christians)

Meeting place: Venus Drive carpark. Alight at bus stop opposite flame tree park condominium.
Hiking distance: 10 kilometres.
Hiking time: Comfortable pace, expect to finish within 3 hours.
Program: Hike from Venus Drive carpark to HSBC Tree-top walk over hanging bridge, then to Jelutong tower and lastly over board walk and ends at Macritchie main entrance.
After hiking: take a bus about six stops to Casurina at Thomson road for roti prata or wanton mee and duck rice. Programs ends after lunch.
Objectives: to exercise and enjoy God's creation. Hopefully can form a group for regular exercises.

We will wait for everyone to gather at front entrance before proceeding for lunch. Should you decide to leave half way, detour or walk another way ( which is not advisable ) please let me know or get someone to inform me so that we do not need to wait for you. It is best to stick with the group. We will walk for an hour before we come to the only ranger station (with clean restrooms and water cooler facilities). You are advise to "go" and also refill your water bottle as you need to walk for another two to three hours before reaching the end point (with restrooms).

Broad Overview :

This is the first round of a pilot project to extend meaningful program for healthy singles to participate in activities that both contributes back to society while providing avenue for enjoyment and socialiation besides the countless eating and drinking sessions so easily available in secular and religious sectors. The event hope to bring 10-15 boys from the Boys Home to the ACM. It aims to enrich their understanding via the various wonderous artifacts and introduce the sophisticated cultures and peoples behind those objects. It will provide an experience very different from the museum visits by yourself or the general tours conducted by curators and musuem guides.

1) We are glad to confirm that the above program has been approved by the Boys Town and will convene on the above stated date (Sorry for the postponement).

2) We are further please to inform that ACM has generously waived admission fees for all the boys and the officer-in-charge, courtesy of JP Morgan.

3) We will strive to cater for a program on "The Treasures of the World", a special exhibition that showcase a throve of treasures largely from the Mediterranean, and partly looted during the disturbance in that region some years ago. It entails a collection full of jewels and luxuriant indulgence of the oil rich nations with a notorious history behind the priceless pieces. Simply put, beautiful to the eye and all desirable but extremely difficult to appreciate without the rich history, cultural background and the voices of the owners on the lost of their heirlom. (No promise we can make it in time for this special program but will aim for it).

4) Since admission is free for the boys, we will agree to Boys Town request to bring the boys out for meal after the session. We'll head to Mac Donalds and would seek each participant to sponsor a meal of up to $6 for one boy.

5) This event aims to combine equal number of working professionals with equal number of boys. We hope that working professionals who are willing to sponsor a boy to visit the museum will step forward.

6) Please only sign up if you confirm that you can go, least we promised the said number to the Boys Town, and participants do not turn up, and the boy allocated to you go hungry when the rest has a sponsor.

Program Fees : Extended through the grace at Canaan when water in the ceremonial urns are turned to wine without charge

Broad Overview :

This is a one time program extended due to its involvement with the Boys Town for this round that the Skiers Ministry of Westley Methodist is offering. Interested participants will function as befrienders and helpers. It'll be a half day program, requiring some to sit on a banana boat with the boys out to sea. The boat will flip, and your presence to participate in the fun as well as extend a calming voice when it happens is required. Those who have a jet ski licence can ride a boy with you on that. Those with power boat license may wish to tag the power boat team, but i doubt they'll let you take the reigns. The team will convene with buffet lunch afterwards all paid for and participants are required to ration food for the guest (which is the boys), then serve yourself. In between all these include laying out chairs, play game during ice breaking, and cleaning up the place and washing the boats after the departure of the boys.

Participants can choose to be involve in the sea section, or serve in the land section. Those involved in the sea sports must know how to swim and be willing to get wet. We'd believe that the best way to know each other is to have fun together. So it will be a fun day. But since this is a semi-ministry, only those who are both willing to have fun and work should reply, it'll be a day to serve the boys and to show that there are many healthy and exciting things that one can do to spend a sunny sunday.

Please note that you'll likely miss your own church service. You are encouraged to go for your sat ones if any.

Feedback from prior groups catering to professional adults were very positive.

5) Dates are still being negotiated but will likely fall on one of the above or a Sat afternoon. There will be 2 get together sessions for briefing and letting participants get acquanted first. The first will be held this sat late evening.

When you consider the challenges women face daily, the blocks in her path, the negating of her intellect, the glass ceiling above her head, the lack of mentors willing to coach and encourage her – yet, somehow, she still breaks through the ties that would bind, and runs toward her destiny.

Is it a wonder that women are feared so much by some men? I did, and today, through observations, conversations, education, I learned a great many things about women.

A woman is passionate – right or wrong, she can be passionate, thus easily deceived by those who would choose to take advantage of her trusting nature.

A woman is unyielding – when it comes to protecting others, she will do whatever it takes to keep another safe either emotionally, spiritually or physically.

A woman is nurturing – within her womb lies the core of all she is – a nurturer – whether she is a mom or not, the very nature of woman is to nurture or mentor another to wellness or success.

A woman is spiritual – deep in her heart, she senses that she is a special creation and that she has a purpose, a destiny awaiting her that is beyond her sight, but not out of reach – she desires to reach into the depths of her spirit and find that God is there, waiting to guide and direct her steps toward her life destiny.

A woman is observant – she sees, watches, listens, with her body, her mind, her eyes, her ears, her entire being is sensitive to what is going on around her. This sensitivity enables her to distinguish between right and wrong, however, sometimes, she can also be persuaded to believe her observation may not be correct – by corrupt individuals who would choose to negate and diminish her keen senses of observation.

A woman loves – with her whole being, she is filled with an endless well of love, that she wishes to share with those in her life. Withheld only if hurt, she will still seek out someone to love – adopt, mentor, elder care, community service, and other opportunities to pour out the love within her to others who may graciously receive it.

A woman sees – she sees with her eyes, and ponders – she sees with her heart, and contemplates all that is encompasses. What does she feel, what does she see, what does she sense?

A woman’s heart is the most precious jewel on earth. It captures the dazzling brilliance of the most exquisite diamond, with the fire of a ruby, the sparkle of a sapphire, the deep green colors of earth in an emerald, and the softness of a pearl. It is these gems, these lavish overtures of love from her heart that makes her who she is.

Jesus made it quite clear that He came to set all free – women included, and He esteemed and honored women. He is woman’s emancipator, the absolute Woman’s Advocate – yet many choose to ignore Him thinking of Jesus as nothing more than a religious icon or a word to be used inappropriately.

A Woman’s heart comes from God, filled by HIM, to be poured out into the lives of others. Jesus, set us free so that we can fulfill our destiny as Winning Woman.

Trip to Pulau Ubin on Sat 21 Nov 09 (For Single Christians Only)

Hi brothers & sisters,

For those who have not been to Pulau Ubin, I would say it's high time that you guys & gals see the greenery and fresh air of this picturesque island. It is not small as some of you would think (twice the size of Sentosa), I ever cycled for 22 km in the island is only two-third of the destinations I accomplished.

The details are as follows:

1) Date/Time: Sat 21 Nov 08, 10.00am to 7pm (whole day event to
explore the island)

2) Venue : Changi Village Bus Terminal Point ( a few minutes walk to
Changi Ferry Terminal).

3) Public transport : Bus Nos 2 from Bedok Bus/MRT station

4) Requirement: MUST be able to ride bicycle. You cannot walk
around the island, you will be exhausted.

5) Max people : 40 people (perferably 20 gals & 20 guys) on first
come first serve basis.

For those who drive, there are ample parking spaces in the open car park there.For those who can come at 10am, we will have breakfast for half hour at the hawker centre near the bus terminal. Thereafter, we will proceed to the ferry point to the island.
